I try to include some little adventures in my summers every week - an extra bike ride to see a sunset, or sketch outing to special summer blooms, eating seasonal things, visiting a body of water and such. What is on your list for summer adventures?
This week I sketched and blogged about:
Artichoke patch with ink and gouache.
- has an article in the latest issue of “Drawing Attention” - a publication by Urban Sketchers. The title of the article is “Extreme Sketching” - and I am honored to be one of the artists he interviewed for it! (it is free to read, opens up in your browser and has all sorts of interesting sketching news: “Drawing Attention”.
Thanks for reading, and thanks for looking!

Voting people in the USA! you can make your voice heard by using 5calls.org - place a call or send a message to your representative. There is a script to use to make it easy - or say it in your own words. I usually write a few words on a post-it note (to avoid rambling and cursing). A list of issues is long - choose ONE and spend 5 minutes fighting for it - every little bit counts! Plug in your zip code, tell them your name and address and a few words. This is how our democracy works!
And here is my sketch from a protest this week:
p.s. If you enjoyed this post, please let me know. It will make my day!
I heard you “recently” on the sneaky art podcast and have been following your Substack journey since. Thanks for encouraging activism as well; I know it’s personal for you. I also know we all need some escape from politics etc. so don’t fault folks for not putting stressful subjects in their posts but you find a beautiful balance between the two. Thanks!
I always love reading about your adventures! Sometimes my adventures are as simple as going for a walk in my neighbourhood and enjoying a matcha latte in my local café. Funny enough, I never think of sketching those!
