So glad we connected on this, Kristi! This book is like a box of candies! I enjoy even just looking through thinking about which one I will eat later :)

Is the gouache explosion one of opera pink? I love the intensity of gouache, but find it too "big" to take on location unless I have access to a table. It all feels a bit much, where my watercolor kit & camp stool seem so portable. How do you manage it all?

it was magenta :)

I have different approaches to gouache on location: one is limiting palette dramatically. Another is making a palette that is easy to use - I have one where I have a bunch of colors in perfect consistency and making this a "luxury" outing where I really take time to paint :) another is where I take some tubes in a bag and a squeeze them as I need them in little amounts. My favorite at the moment is I created a palette where I have both gouache and watercolor. The main trick with it that you should have extra water container to wash the brush really well - otherwise paints become contaminated and it is really hard to get darks to be darks and lights to be lights.

Thanks! Currently, I do your Plan B. Maybe I should hang in there. I'll let you know!
